Hello
Hi, I'm Mandy Flores-Curley. I grew up in the South-side of San Antonio, Texas in the Harlandale District. My mother and father were both very hard working and always strived to support my sister and I. Ever since I was 6 years old, I wanted to be a teacher. I would bring home extra workbooks given to me by my teacher and my two uncles were my very first ESL students as I proudly taught them how to read and write in English.

And while I did not learn Spanish as a child, my efforts to learn my parents' language was high. I remember my parents telling me, "You're lucky to learn English at school". Now as an adult, I realized that they did not want me to struggle as they did in the 1960's.

These days...
I'm a PhD student in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Virginia with over 14 years of experience in bilingual and ESL education. My research focuses on how generative AI can support culturally diverse lessons and translation for English Learners. I'm passionate about helping teachers bridge the gap between pedagogy and technology in the classroom.
Beyond my research, I'm a wife and mom of four incredible kids. I love to run and take my dog on long hikes.
My faith as a Christian keeps me grounded, hopeful, positive, and encouraging- and I strive to bring purpose and creativity into everything I do—whether it's designing engaging workshops for educators, writing academic papers, or exploring new ways to support multilingual learners.
